Digital Video Fundamentals

igital video is an extension to the century old tradition of cinema and movies. What I hope to outline in these pages is the basics of movie making and how that can be used and abused within the computer. If you have any further questions after reading this potted guide to video please mail Ian@axon.net.au

When film and then video were first invented the basic way it worked was to trick the eye by showing images faster that it can recognise them and to give the appearance of movement. That is still true today with digital video and we will begin by quickly examining how traditional film and video work. This will serve as a basis for our understanding of creating effective animations and video.
